Write a Letter to the Editor

Letters Policy

All letters addressed and written exclusively to the editor of the Reporter will be published except assertions judged to be indefensible libel and letters about private, personal disputes, unless they are judged to be of significant community interest. Libelous content in an otherwise publishable letter may be edited. Letters will also be edited for grammar and style. Repetitive letters from the same author may be edited for length or rejected.
Third-party letters, such as copies of letters sent to town officials or other parties, will not be published unless they are revised as letters to the editor.
All letters must be signed. Use of a pseudonym is not permitted. A mailing address and phone number are required from writers not personally familiar to the staff but the contact information will not be published.
Submission by email to mail@sireporter.com as an attached text file is preferred. Letters may be dropped off at the Reporter office or mailed to the Editor, Shelter Island Reporter, P.O. Box 756, Shelter Island, New York 11964.
There is no deadline for letters; they will be published in the next available edition as space allows. Thank you letters may be held until space is available for them.
