Sailors return to port.  Hulls and sails of varied colors made for a unique parade as these Herreshoffs headed back to their moorings in Dering Habor, just moments after completing a channel race on Saturday. After crossing the finish line at North Pier, the hurried atmosphere of the sailboat race quickly faded into what became a short but leisurely afternoon cruise.

Top Lions honored
The Lions Club of Shelter Island celebrated the presentation of two of its top awards at its annual dinner this month at the Pridwin. Laury Dowd, the new Lions president, received the Knights of the Blind Distinguished Recognition and Bill Clark was honored with the Melvin Jones Fellowship -- the Lions' highest international award.

Gaggle of Games
This annual afternoon of games, hosted by the Garden Club of Shelter Island, took place in St. Mary's Parish Hall on Wednesday, June 30. Enjoying a  hand of bridge (or was it hearts?) were, from the left, Mary Chobar, Brenda Bergman, Carol Read and Janet Hawkins.

Beauty of Tradition
Laura McLaughlin was the featured speaker at this month's Garden Club of Shelter Island meeting held on July 14 in St. Mary's Parish Hall.  A national judge of flower shows as well as a design instructor, she demonstrated a number of table artistry designs for members.

A Divine Tour of Egypt

An 8th grade tradition...
The annual car wash and yard and bake sale was held on Fiske Field this Saturday to raise money for the class trip. Larry Thomsen may have found a treasure at this table staffed by Inga Cordts and Leila Mulligan.
